My 5-day scouting trip to Portland

So it's already been another month since I last updated here. Facebook and school and work and tv have taken up my time.

I took a wonderful long weekend trip to hunt for apartments in Portland. I tried to get the less expensive flights so I couldn't fly direct and so I spent some time in the Salt Lake airport and by the way Salt Lake looks beautiful and colorful from the sky.

I spent some time at Portland State University, met the Professor in charge of special education for children birth to 5 years (this is the area I think I'll be going into, rather than elementary age-I'm mostly certain about this but not 100%). The first day I was a little nervous to venture too far from the university campus in fear that I may get lost. In the evening I took the bus to meet Hillary for the first time and stay the night with her.

Day two I had a wonderful french breakfast at Chef Tucker's, bought a warm sweater at my favorite 2nd hand shop-Buffalo Exchange, got a library card and started the process to get a PO Box.

Day three I had another tasty french breakfast at Chef Tucker's and took the bus to look at the first apartment on my list and it was a sketchy neighborhood so I didn't even get off the bus. My ideals for price started to change as I saw that what I had hoped to pay got me into only very scary neighborhoods. I ended the day by meeting up with my favorite married couple-the Alperts and they took me out to dinner at a Mcminnimins (sp?) (started by a man named thusly but I don't remember the actual name of the place). I feel asleep to watching Rushmore for the first time, liked it.

Day four was Sunday and I went to church with the Alperts and spent 6 hours driving around with Katie looking at tons of apartments. In the evening I visited one of my new favorite stores, the container store. Then we met Stephanie (who I first met in Praha) for dinner and I spent the hour speaking before thinking, but we laughed about it.

Monday I packed up and went downtown and looked at two more apartments before heading to the airport. Those last two apartments are the ones that stuck in my mind so I'm hoping to live in one of them, probably the less expensive one that comes with free wi-fi in most aparments. And if I'm able to find an apartment before I move, my parents will be driving me and all my stuff up after Christmas, but if I can't find one I'll take the train up and I'll be living with Hillary for a little while. Just as I got to the airport it started to rain-it was unseasonably dry the whole time I was there, which was nice when I was walking around so much.

I LOVED IT! I can't wait to go back, hopefully I'll enjoy living there as much as visiting and the rain doesn't get me down too much.
